Rhodes is the largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands, located northeast of Crete, and southeast of Athens. Rhodes is also known as 'The island of the Knights', because of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem that once conquered the land. It is a very popular tourist destination with the excellent facilities for tourism. It is very easy to get to Rhodes as there are three airports (Diagoras Airport is the main one), and well connection with major Greek islands and cities as well as with majority European cities via charter flights. Whether tourists are looking for spectacular beaches, buzzing nightlife, numerous cultural and archaeological sites, charming small villages, they can find it in Rhodes. The most popular sightseeing here is the romantic Old Town, which features strong walls, an impressive-looking castle, cobbled streets, stone mansions. Other worth visiting sites are Acropolis of pictureous Lindos town, the Monastery of Filerimos, the Valley of Butterflies. Another memorable experience in Rhodes is diving. The crystal-clear waters, variety of dive sites and the underwater terrain with dramatic walls, caves, unusual rock formations, variety of wrecks provide divers with some adventure dives. Dive sites are approachable by shore and by boat. Also there are a lot of dive centers which offer different programmes for all diver levels, as well as for disabled divers.
