How to get to the Samana

Samaná is often viewed as the best area for diving on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It offers various dive sites for both novice and experienced divers who want to discover the abundant sea life of the Caribbean. Coral gardens and labyrinths, wrecks and caves hide various tropical fish, large barracudas, rays and parrotfish. It is possible to spot turtles here, but the major highlight of Samaná is the humpback whale, which comes to mate and produce offspring in this area. They can be observed in the protected reef of Banco de la Plata. Samaná is known among experienced divers for dive sites like Cabrón, with its wall plunging 177ft/54m down, DuDu Cave, offering adventurous night diving opportunities and spots with underwater drop-offs and pinnacles. Samaná’s caves are famous for their numerous stalactites and stalagmites. Beginners will be fascinated by the small canyons full of hard and soft corals, sponges and gorgonians, with an abundance of starfish and porcupinefish. There are many PADI-certified dive centers with experienced instructors providing their own underwater routes.
