How to get to the Cabarete
Cabarete is located along the northern coast and is a popular destination among divers of all levels. Beginners can enjoy the abundance of sea life in the bay’s broad reef, at a depth of 15ft/5m, while experienced divers have a chance to explore walls and wrecks. The deepest dive is around 79ft/24m, at the site of the Miguelina Wreck, with its 250-year-old anchor, which is covered in corals and algae. Small canyons, large rocks and underwater caves are full of a diversity of species including sponges, purple sea fans, gorgonians, sergeant majors, snappers, parrotfish, trumpetfish, scorpionfish and many more. Among the larger fish in this area are barracudas, swordfish, marlins and even blacktip sharks. The most famous dive sites around Cabarete are Tropical Garden, with its broad network of patch reefs, and Three Rocks, teeming with small exotic fish. Night diving is also available here, offering the opportunity of spotting lobsters and moray eels.
