The Cathedral Cave, located off the north coast of Gozo Island, sometimes, is also called the Blue Dome, because of the spectacular visual effect created by the sunlight that streams down through the arch-shaped entrance and many holes and cracks on the walls of the cave. The dive starts in a picturesque inlet, where divers descend along the wall to the entrance of the cave at around 6m/19ft deep. The cave goes down to 30m/98ft, and while exploring the cave, divers will see a variety of marine life and beautiful coral growth on the walls of the cave, including sponges and golden zoanthids. This dive site is a perfect place for underwater photography.

When To Go Diving

Diving is possible all year round, however, the best diving conditions are from May to November. August is the hottest month in Gozo when the water temperature can rise to 26C/79F. The coldest month is January when the water temperature can, sometimes, drop down to chilly 14C/57F.

What to see

A beautiful cave with the walls overgrown with corals, bright sponges and zoanthids. Divers will also see starfish, sea urchins, damselfish, scorpion fish and sea bream.
