The Qawra Point dive site is situated at the southern tip of St. Paul's Bay. The dive can be done in different ways, depending on the diver's experience. Novice divers usually descend to the depth of 6m/20ft where they see large areas of sea grass and many small gullies. Going around the corner of the reef, they will find a small cave, that will lead them to an inland sea, where they can surface and snorkel around a central rock. More experienced divers are advised to follow the reef to a depth of around 28m/92ft, where they will find beautifully shaped sponges and an abundance of marine life. At a depth of 36m/118ft on the left-hand side of the reef, there will be a cave in a horseshoe shape. The visibility within the cave is very poor, and the bottom is rocky with silty areas. They can explore the inland sea on their return journey.
When To Go Diving
This dive site is open for diving all year round. However, during the winter the water temperature is quite chilly, around 15-17C/59-63F. In summer the water temperature ranges from 18C/64F in May to 26C/79F in August.
What to see
The dive site offers an interesting exploration of the reef, caves, and the small inland sea. Divers can see a variety of marine life, including crabs, shrimp, sometimes sea horses, and even sea hares. Divers will be also accompanied by shoals of transparent glass fish, bream and cuttlefish throughout their dives.
