Liveaboard diving in
Mgarr ix-Xini
Mgarr ix-Xini, located off the south coast of Gozo Island, is a picturesque natural bay that is popular with swimmers, snorkelers and divers. Calm and clear waters of the bay feature a diverse marine life with a wide variety of fish species, which makes the bay an excellent place for underwater photography. There is an interesting cavern on the right-hand side of the bay at about 12m/39ft deep with many tiny holes and crevices that divers can explore. At the shallow bottom in the middle of the bay, divers can find some interesting bottom-dwelling species that will try to hide under the sand when divers approach them.
When To Go Diving
Diving in Mgarr ix-Xini bay is possible all year round, however, during the winter the water temperature drops to chilly 14-17C59-63F. The best diving conditions are from May to November with the maximum water temperature of 27C/81F, which is often in August.
What to see
Some of the interesting fish species that divers can spot while diving in Mgarr ix-Xini bay are flying gurnards, stargazers, picarel, starfish, sea horses and octopus.
