Located on the southwestern Mediterranean coast of Cyprus, Paphos is a coastal city in Paphos District. Paphos international Airport is located here. Paphos is also known as the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love and beauty. Paphos has a population of about 33 thousand people and is a quickly-developing tourist resort. Its economy depends directly on tourism. There are four main resorts in the area: Coral Bay, Latchi, Kato Paphos and Aphrodite Hills. The city also hosts the island’s second international airport. Paphos harbor is always crowded with fishing boats and yachts. Paphos Marina has cultural and historical importance. Numerous dive sites are available in the area, varying from exciting locations for wreck diving to small reefs near the Paphos coast. Of the many interesting dive sites near Paphos, the best are: Achilleas, Jubilee Shoals, Melanda, Aphrodite’s Rock, Wreck of White Star, Minijin Isle and Amphitheatre.
