The Veligandu East dive site is located on the eastern side of Rasdhoo Atoll, Maldives and features a gently sloping wall covered in colorful corals. Bigger coral formations start to appear below 10m/33ft and then can be seen all the way down to the sea bottom at a depth of over 30m/98ft. Between the coral heads divers will see hundreds of glassfish, scorpionfish, and other reef fish. This dive site can also be interesting because of the possibility to be accompanied by numerous sea turtles that seem to be particularly friendly in this area. When going down to the sandy bottom, divers will have a chance to spot whitetip reef sharks and even rare leopard sharks.

When To Go Diving

It is possible to dive at this site throughout the year, because the annual water temperature of 26-29C/79-84F provides comfortable conditions for year-round diving. However, the best season is considered to be from December to May, when the seas are calmer and there is no rain.

What to see

During their dives, divers will see beautiful corals, colorful anemones, nudibranchs, clownfish, unicornfish, glassfish, scorpionfish, as well as larger species, like eagle rays, tuna, and some types of sharks. Divers will also have opportunities to see dolphins and to be accompanied by friendly turtles.
