Embudhoo Kandu
Embudhoo Kandu is a channel in a preserved area with a reef wall that is located in the northeast of South Malé Atoll in the Maldives (6km/3.7mi south of North Malé). It is famous for opportunities to dive with sharks. The descent begins on the south side, where divers can drop down to 30m/98ft deep. There are also caverns and caves with calm conditions that shelter colorful fish, likely to be of interest to underwater photographers. Divers can enjoy drift diving through a narrow canyon here at 15m/49ft, finishing in the shallows.
When To Go Diving
It is possible to dive in Embudhoo Kandu throughout the year, with an average water temperature of 26-29C/79-84F. The best time for liveaboards is from November to May. Short, heavy rains may occur from June to July.
What to see
Divers can explore soft and hard corals and encounter gray reef sharks, rays, Napoleon wrasses, marbled grouper, soldierfish, colorful sponges, lionfish, moray eels, and octopi.
