Shipyard
Shipyard is a very famous sites in Maldives, where divers can explore two wrecks within 50m/164ft of each other. The large one of the wrecks, the Skipjack II, has the bow about 5m/16ft out of the water. The boat belonged to the Felivaru fish factory and at the end of its lifespan it was to be deliberately sunk between the Lhaviyani and Baa Atoll’s, but while being towed there the ship caught fire and sank. The second boat arrived in Maldivian waters without permission and soon the Maldivian government captured possession of the ship and used the ship as a cargo transporter. Later in 1984 when the vessel started leaking while traveling from the north of the Maldives to Male, the crew tried to reach Felivaru for the necessary repairs, but the boat sank very close to their destination. The site is more suitable for advanced diver level:average depth is 15m/49ft and maximum depth - 30m/98ft. Current are medium (1-2 knots), but can be quite strong.
