South Ari Atoll

Broken Rock is located in the southern part of Ari Atoll, in the Dhigurah Channel, and is one of the most well-known dive spots in the region. It is a canyon in an oval-shaped coral reef 50m/164ft long and 2m/6ft wide. The reef was cracked in two areas by water streams and has a large crevice in the very center which formed a tunnel. On both walls of the tunnel there are plenty of cavities covered with gorgonians and sponges. The bottom of the reef is covered with predominantly soft corals, while two beautiful coral blocks can be found at a depth of 25-30m/82-98ft on the north side of the reef.

When To Go Diving

Broken Rock can be visited at any time of the year, but the best time is from December to May, during the northeast monsoon, when the sea surface is almost never choppy. The sea temperature in this area is stable and hovers between 26-29C/79-82F.

What to see

The Broken Rock dive site has thriving, magnificent corals, sea fans, and gorgonians growing on the walls of the canyon. Some of the site's inhabitants and frequent guests are stately Napoleon wrasses, fantastic-looking triggerfish, and one of the most whimsical marine creatures, pufferfish. Turtles, moray eels, and barracudas are also likely to be seen here.
