About Baa Atoll

Baa Atoll consists of three separate natural atolls, namely southern Maalhosmadulu Atoll, the Fasdūtherē Atoll and the smaller natural atoll known as Goifulhafehendhu Atoll. Baa Atoll boasts two marine protected areas that are renowned for excellent whale shark encounters. One of these is at Hanifaru Bay on the east side of Baa Atoll. This is a relatively small bay on an uninhabited island which has become known the world over as an amazing spot for experiences with both whale sharks and manta rays. The marine life around Baa Atoll includes unbelievable number of fish: red toothed triggers, black pyramid butterflyish, parrotfish, angelfish, very longnosed butterflyfish, unicornfish and starry rabbitfish among hundreds of species, and also sharks, mantas and turtles. Diving here is available for all levels of experience. The dive sites consists of amazing reefs, caves, and pinnacles (thilas). Among the most popular dive sites off Baa Atoll are : Dhonfanu Thila, Dhigali Haa, Hanifaru Bay.

When to go to Baa Atoll

Diving in Baa Atoll is all the year round but the recommended are the period December to May, when the seas are at their calmest. The average air temperature is around 30°C/86F. Water temperatures averages around 26 to 29°C/78 to 84F. Visibility is around 15-30m/49-98ft all year round.
