Giant Kelp Forest is a unique dive site on the east coast of Tasmania that features an endangered ecosystem and forest-like environment. The underwater wilderness here has ropes of kelp that grow far up from the seabed in large colonies, which create exciting swim-throughs and calm pools.
When To Go Diving
Giant Kelp Forest has warm water for diving from December to February. It is possible to dive during other months if you wear a thick wetsuit. The average maximum water temperature is 20-24C/68-75F.
What to see
Kelp ecosystems shelter abundant flora and fauna species at Giant Kelp Forest. The common inhabitants include crayfish, weedy seadragons, cuttlefish, cowfish, leatherjackets, and colorful nudibranchs.
