Liveaboard diving in
Mama Viña Wreck
Wreck
This former shrimp boat was intentionally sunk in 1995 to create an artificial reef for divers. Since then, the coral growth has proceeded rapidly and the wreck has attracted lots of marine life. Divers are advised to get into the water south of the wreck and maintain a depth of 10m/32ft until the bow of the wreck appears. It is usually easily seen from a distance. Once close, divers can descend to the bottom and drift along the side of the wreck until the stern will be reached, the propeller can also be found there. From this point it is recommended to move up into the lower deck, where divers can explore inside rooms through the windows. Afterwards, divers can move to the top level, lean on the ceiling and enjoy schools of fish floating by, including huge barracudas. Mild to strong current is to be expected usually moving to the north. Minimum depth of the site is 21m/70ft and maximum depth is close to 30m/100ft. This dive is for experienced divers only. Average visibility reaches up to 30m/98ft.
