Cocos Island
Cocos Island (Isla del Coco) is located 342mi/550km off the shore of Costa Rica, and is a great place for scuba diving. Cocos Island has volcanic mountains covered with tropical forests, as well as countless plants and colorful flowers. Diving at Cocos Island can create unforgettable memories for scuba divers. Corals, rocks, reefs, volcanic walls, crystal-clear water and breathtaking marine fauna can be explored while diving in these waters. The rocky shore is too dangerous for ships, because there are only two safe bays. There are about 20 beautiful dive sites in this area. Bajo Alcyone is legendary seamount with lots of marine inhabitants. Dirty Rock Reef is good for novice divers, because the depth is 6-39m/20-130ft. Punta María is a good spot for scuba diving with large numbers of sharks: Galápagos sharks, whitetip reef sharks, blacktip sharks, and hammerheads. Other dive spots such as Manuelita Garden, Dos Amigos Grande, and Dos Amigos Pequeña also offer divers to explore the richness of marine world.

The climate at Cocos Island is tropical and humid. The average annual temperature is 276C/80F. The wet season lasts from May to November. The water temperature averages 23-28C/73-82F in the winter and 28-30C/82-86F in the summer.
What to see
At Cocos Island, divers can see hundreds of hammerhead sharks and reef sharks during the dive. Divers can also find lots of manta rays, moray eels, marlins, tuna, sardines, octopi, murenas, hawksbill turtles, dolphins, tropical fish, and different species of whales.
