Alki Cove 1-3
The Alki Cove 1-3 are three popular dive spots that are suitable for novice divers or those who are looking for an easy and fun diving. The most interesting and popular dive is Cove 2, where divers can explore a sunken boat, known as the Honey Bear Wreck that lies at a depth of around 35ft/11m. Divers will see an interesting bunch of pilings near the wreck, and if they go deeper to a depth of around 85ft/26m, they will see the I-beams. Cove 1 is also popular, but it is mostly used as a training site. Cove 3, located at a distance of around 197ft/60m from Cove 2, is the least visited site. However, it shouldn't be overlooked, because here divers can explore some interesting rocky piles and also a junk yard. This dive site is also a great place for night diving.
When To Go Diving
Divers can dive at this site all year round. However, to keep warm, they need to use a dry suit with thermal undergarments, because the water is always chilly here, with the annual water temperature ranging between 45-55F/7-13C.
What to see
When diving at the Alki Cove 1-3, divers will see a sunken wreck, various debris, pilings, and the junk yard. At this site it is not uncommon to find stubby squid, red octopi, and very large Pacific octopi. When diving here at night, divers can also see a group of playful seals that like to use the lights from divers' torches to find food, and sometimes they even bump into divers while going for the fish.
