The West Wall dive site, located on the south side of Fox Island, offers a wonderful diving experience for beginners and more experienced divers. The dive site features a wall that stretches parallel to the beach at a depth of around 55-65ft/17-20m. While exploring the wall, divers will find a variety of marine creatures living in the many hiding places along the wall. Another interesting feature of this dive site is the great number of purple sand dollars, which are extremely flattened species of sea urchins. Divers will see a whole ‘field’ of sand dollars.

When To Go Diving

Divers can visit this dive site any time of the year. The visibility is the best during the winter, and summer has longer diving days. However, divers will need to use a dry suit with thermal undergarments made for the Arctic, because the annual water temperature is as low as 14-55F/7-13C.

What to see

At this dive site, divers will see red octopi, sea pens, crabs, wolf eels, grunt sculpins, sturgeon poachers, and thousands of sand dollars.
