Bodu Gah
Bodu Gah (Maldives), which in local language means ‘big rock’, is an underwater pinnacle that rises from a great depth but does not reach the sea surface and can be seen just a few centimeters/inches below the surface. When they descend along the wall to a depth of around 25-28m/82-92ft, divers will find two sandy areas where they can look for small marine creatures hiding in sandy burrows or between large coral blocks. The surrounding waters are full of shoals of small reef fish and bigger predators, and occasionally, divers can encounter whitetip reef sharks sleeping on the sand.
When To Go Diving
It is possible to dive at this dive site all year round, but the best season is from December to May, because the sea is calmer during this period. The sea conditions can be choppy during the southwest monsoon, which lasts from June to November and brings rain and strong winds. The average water temperature is 26-29C/79-84F throughout the year.
What to see
While exploring the big rock, divers will see beautiful corals, colorful nudibranchs, glassfish, sweetlips, snapper, stingrays, possibly eagle rays, and occasionally whitetip reef sharks, relaxing for the day on the sandy bottom.
