About Vis Island

Vis is the most outlying of all Croatian islands, located 30km/18mi northwest off the island of Hvar on the Dalmatian coast. The island is known for its unspoiled beauty in the heart of Adriatic. Some of the places worth visiting include beautiful bays of Stoncica, Milna and Zaglav, the neighboring island of Ravnik and the Green Cave on Ravnik. Diving here is very popular and features a diverse underwater landscape consisting of numerous caves, tunnels, canyons, pillars, walls and arches. Diving highlights include numerous wrecks with sunken ships from the WWI and WWII era, planes, submarines and underwater caves with holes, through which sunlight rays pierce the water. There are many dive sites suitable for all levels of experience as well as for recreational and technical use. When to go to Vis Island

The island of Vis has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Rain mostly falls in the period from October through January. Diving is the best from May to September. The average temperature in winter ranges from 6 to 12C/42-54F, and in summer from 19 to 28C/66-82F. Sea temperature is about 13-15C/55-59F in winter and 21-26C/70-79F in summer. The visibility is good: from 10m to 30m/32-98ft. Sometimes there are no currents, byt mostly the currents vary from low to medium. What to see The undersea flora and fauna are impressive and feature big crabs, white fish, John Dories (zeus faber), jellyfish, moray eels, scorpionfish, conger eels, shrimp, dusky groupers, amberjacks, monk seals, nudibranchs, flatworms and tunicates as well as red gorgonians and soft corals of various colors.
