About St. Thomas

Diving in St. Thomas is easy and accessible, and offers an array of experiences for divers of all experience levels. St. Thomas is surrounded by some of the Caribbean’s reefs, and there are more than a dozen shipwrecks to explore. The teeming marine life includes blue tang, horse-eye jacks, queen triggerfish, spiny Caribbean lobster, spotted eagle rays, Creole wrasse, cleaner gobies, octopuses, seahorses, moray eels and turtles. The various dive sites in the region allow for a variety of activities. Navy Barges is a site with twin barges sunk after WWII, which have become an ideal habitat for marine life. Wit Shoal II, a former Navy tank-landing ship, is now a thriving artificial reef and home to yellowtail snapper, barracudas and groupers. Cow & Calf, off the southeast coast of St. Thomas, is named after two large rocks protruding from the water that look like whales. This site boasts dramatic ledges, canyons and caves. Tunnels of Thatch has magnificent black rock arches and lava tubes. Here, divers may observe butterflyfish, parrotfish and trumpetfish, moray eels and spiny lobsters, etc. Coki Beach is home to two fringing reefs where divers can find bar jacks, grunts, yellowhead jawfish and cleaner shrimp, as well as an occasional turtle or stingray. St. Thomas also shares many dive sites with St. John due to the island’s proximity and the surrounding reefs.
