About Panglao

Panglao is a small island located at the south western tip of Bohol Island. It is connected by two bridges to Bohol. Panglao is a relatively flat island without any significant mountains. There is a shallow reef platform with the depth of 5-6m/15-20ft which ends at deeper submarine cliffs, somewhere around 33-56m/100-170ft. This is a great place for snorkeling for novice as well as experienced divers. The dive sites on Panglao Island  include wall dives, caves, drift diving and some house reefs. It is also a great place for underwater photography. One of the popular diving areas on Panglao Island is in Doljo. This is a house reef with easy diving especially great for novices. On this wall dive divers will see lots of different kinds of hard corals. The depth here ranges from 9m/3ft to 25m/82ft. The marine life is varied and includes various types of cardinal fish, shrimp and crabs as well as plenty of nudibranchs.  Another dive site is Snake Island located in Libaong. It is an underwater island. It's a popular dive site recommended for advanced divers. The depth here ranges from 9m/29ft to 30m/98ft and there is a lot of marine life to see, such as nudibranchs, moray eels and black and white banded sea snakes. Strong currents are regularly observed here. Also in Panglao divers can find many deeper dive sites with the depth reaching up to 35-45m/114-147ft which are suitable for experienced and advanced divers.

When to go to Panglao

Diving in this area is possible all year round. It is likely to see whales during migration season in the summer months. The average annual air temperature is 27C/82F. The average water temperature is from 26C/78F to 30C/86F. The average visibility ranges from 10m/33ft to 30m/98ft. The currents vary from weak to strong. What to see The dive sites here are home to abundant sea life including snappers, groupers, black-tip sharks, tuna, mackerel, surgeon fish, manta rays, big eye trevally, barracudas, fusilier, bat fish, damsels, dolphins and pilot whales. Divers can enjoy the scenery of various hard and soft corals. In deeper waters there is a good chance to see white tip or hammerhead sharks, especially during the months of February and March.
