About Masbate

Masbate is an island province of the Philippines located in the Bicol region. Masbate is one of the best diving destinations of the Philippines. Diving here is diverse, you can find here some caves, wrecks, reefs and impressive marine life. Ticao and Donsol are the most popular destinations of Masbate. One of the most famous highlights of Masbate is diving with Whale Sharks and Mantas. Ticao Pass, Masbate Island has one of the world’s highest concentration of plankton due to the strong currents from San Bernardino Strait, and from December to May each year Whale Sharks gather to feed on the rich, plankton here. Masbate also offers divers to explore awesome walls, coral gardens with a diverse marine life,including  tiny transparent shrimps, neon nudibranchs and huge basket sponges adorned with hundreds of colorful crinoids, a variety of reef fish, scorpion fish, emperor, barracuda, Moorish idol, flute mouth, tuna, batfish, trevally and  turtles. Among dive-sites of this area the most popular are  Doña Marilyn Wreck, Tom's Reef and Manta Bowl.

When to go to Masbate

It is possible to dive Masbate year-round, the dry season from March to June and rainy from September to February. Air temperatures average 25-32C/78-90F. Water temperatures average 23-30C/73-86F depending on the season. Visibility: 5-45 m/16-148 ft. Depths: 5-40 m/16-130 ft. Currents mostly are mild, in some areas, currents can be very strong. From December to May the Whale Shark season.
