Florida is a great diving region, that offers clear waters, shallow reefs for snorkelers, a range of deeper reefs for experienced divers, caves, awesome wrecks, natural coral formations and beautiful fish life. The most popular diving areas are The Gulf Coast and Florida Keys. In Florida’s Gulf Coast the most popular diving areas are Pensacola and the Panama City in the north; Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tarpon Springs and Port Richey in the mid-state area. There are more than 80 artificial reef systems off of Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and Lee counties, this area is available for diver is any diver level. Florida Keys is a home to the continental United States' only living-coral barrier reef in North America and the 3rd largest coral barrier reef in the world. The U.S. government named the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to protect the marine habitat. The Florida Keys, divided on Upper Keys, Middle Keys, Lower Keys and Key West, also offers a great variety of dive sites, especially there are lots of shipwrecks (both of a historical nature and those sunk to serve as artificial reefs). Most popular dive sites Among the most popular dive sites are the follows: Bay Ronto wreck, Siesta Key’s Point of Rocks ( features natural limestone rock formations), The Crystal River, The Thunderbolt wreck, The Duane and the Bibb are US Coast Guard cutters, Molasses Reef, Alligator Reef (popular among novice divers), Pickles Reef (great for macro diving) and some others. The Crystal River area is famous for its concentration of Manatees: divers have the chance to see these amazing animals up close in the beautiful waters of Kings Bay in winter. Molasses Reef is one of the most popular reefs in the Upper Keys with lots of fish, and numerous boulder corals, coral formations,caves and ledges.

When to go to Florida, USA

Diving in Florida is available year-round. Divers can choose between two seasons: hot and wet (from May through October) and warm and dry (from November to April). Except of southeast Florida, the climate regime for much of the state is humid subtropical. Average annual temperatures range from 23 to 25C (74 to 77F) in the southern peninsula and on the Keys, and from 18 to 21C (65 to 70F) in the north. With some regional variations, the water temperature averages 28C / 82F in summer and 16C / 60F in winter. Underwater visibility ranges from 10 to 30m/30-100ft. Currents can be a significant factor depending on the dive site, especially on the offshore wrecks. What to see Florida is home to a diversity of species, including rays, starfish, goliath groupers, hogfish, amberjack, barracudas, rays, crabs, moray eels, parrotfish, angelfish, filefish,and, sharks, dolphins, whales. The coral formations are famous for their abundance of fish, from impressive schools of blue-striped grunts to toothy green moray eels. The Gulf Coast is home to manatees and sea turtles. Also many sites are home to sponges and corals.
