The Adirondack
History buffs will enjoy diving at the USS Adirondack, which is a shipwreck, a former wooden screw vessel. The USS Adirondack was built in 1861 and sank in 1862. Fortunately, the crew was rescued. The ship has become a real diving attraction. Nowadays the wreck is an artificial reef covered with various corals and sponges. When diving at this site, divers can examine two large cannons and twelve smaller cannons scattered around.
When To Go Diving
The average temperature in the Abaco Islands is 21-27C/69-80F in winter and 27-32C/80-89F in summer. The water temperature is about the same year-round. The rainy season lasts from May to October.
What to see
The ship’s remains shelter hundreds of reef fish. When diving at the USS Adirondack, divers can see blue tangs, batfish, grouper, lionfish, angelfish, and turtles.
