The Hot Rocks dive site is located in the waters around the volcanic Sangeang Island. The volcano is active, and due to this, streams of bubbles of volcanic gases rise from the sea bottom, creating a unique underwater picture. The shallow areas of the site contain rocks that are actually physically hot, and are unforgettable because they are covered with glowing pink anemones spreading neon light contrasting with the black sand. The deep areas of the site have sandy slopes and corals, black coral formations, and a small cave. Due to its unique seascape and unusual streams of volcanic gas bubbles, the site perfectly suits underwater photography lovers.
When To Go Diving
Hot Rocks is a year-round dive destination. The best time to dive here is April to November, and out of that time range, April is considered to be the best, because it’s the month just after the end of the rainy season. The sea water temperature in this area averages 25-28C/77-82F.
What to see
Some species found here include multi-colored soft corals, black coral formations, anemones, gorgonian fans, pygmy seahorses, trumpetfish, octopi, lobsters, and nudibranchs.
