In the waters near the beach of Farondi lies an adventurous dive site, the Goa Farondi Caves. It starts as a regular soft-coral reef at a shallow depth of about 5m/16ft, which leads to a long tunnel ending at 25m/82ft of depth, whose floor is powdered with white sand. After swimming through the tunnel and then along a wall with corals and fans, there is a large cave with stalactites. In the ceiling of the cave there's a big hole where light enters, creating magical underwater pictures. This hole is also an exit to the surface.
When To Go Diving
The waters in the Raja Ampat region are known for their exceptional warmth throughout the year, with water temperatures varying between 28-30C/82-86F, so it is a year-round dive destination. However, the best weather and the calmest seas are from mid-October to mid-December, so this is considered to be the best time to dive.
What to see
Some of the marine life here includes soft and hard corals, table corals resembling huge mushrooms, staghorn corals, fire corals, sea fans, barrel sponges, sweetlips, fusiliers, wobbegongs, bumphead parrotfish, signal gobies, and tiger shrimp.
