Liveaboard diving in
Los Escalones
A platteau-slope pattern reef scarred by short cannyons falls from the sandy patch at 16 meters to the sandy bottom at the foot of the reef by 32 meters. Heading north (the right way to dive it), the reef will become narrower until it's just a succession of coral patches. The best place to start is a sandy circle - looks like a square - that interrupts the reef range. From there, a coral ramp descends in the sandy bottom to the dropoff at 53 meters, beyonfd diving recreational limits.
When To Go Diving
The site is at it's best when there's current, which uses to be mild. Wind blowing from the north helps a lot, but south east winds also helps.
What to see
Aside from the usual coral dwelers, eagle rays, hawksbill, green and loggerhead turtles, southern sting ray, barracudas and, if you lucky enough, nurse sharks.
