Coffins Patch
Coffins Patch consists of six different reef agglomeration patches, which form a unique dive site in Marathon. Coffins Patch is a preserved area, which means that there is more and more fish every year. Scuba diving in the area is also marked by the exploration of ship remains. Even the name of the site goes from the ship sank here, which was carrying coffins. However, the wreck is very old and not preserved well. Diving in Coffins Patch is advisable for the underwater photography enthusiasts due to its bright colorful scenery and lots of light.
When To Go Diving
Climate is tropical in Marathon. Diving in Coffins Patch is advisable during the wet and hot season, which lasts from May to October with air temperatures of 30-32C/86-89F and water averages of 27-29C/80-84F. Approximate air and water temperatures from November to April are of 16-18C/60-64F.
What to see
Divers can spot such marine species as angelfish, grunts, snappers, barracuda, yellowtails and parrotfish. Diving in Coffins Patch provide divers with excellent opportunities to explore various coral types. Divers can admire brain, staghorn and fire corals, dense elkhorn fields and unique pillar corals.
