About Centro

The Centro Region is located in central Portugal with Coimbra as its capital. The region is well-known among tourists for its beautiful nature, historical sights, rich culture and traditions. There are a lot of frontier castles in the Centro Region dated back to the 11th – 13th centuries, which have obtained a status of national monuments. Besides a variety of interesting sights around Centro, there are many activities tourists can participate. Diving in Centro region is available for divers of all levels of experience. Peniche is considered one of the best places for diving. Divers can explore a large number of caves, wrecks and barrier reefs teeming with marine life, especially macro species. The most popular dive-sites include the Berlengas archipelago; Cova do Sono, which is a sheltered bay with many caves; The Primavera, an easy wreck dive great for beginners and the Baixa Alagada or Flooded Reef, a very nice reef with a wreck.

When to go to Centro

Mild climate makes diving in Centro Region of Portugal possible throughout the year. The average air temperature stays around 28C/82F in the summer and 11C/52F in the winter. The average water temperature is around 21C/70F in the summer and 16C/59F in the winter. The water visibility varies generally between 3-8m/10-26ft.
