About Belize District

Belize is situated on the Caribbean coast of Central America and its excellent conditions make it one of the best regions for diving. The warm, clear water of Belize District dive sites is ideal for exploring underwater life. There are a lot of diving activities for all experience levels, including liveaboard diving and shore diving. Belize is home to the longest stretch of coral and, in addition to its barrier reef, it also boasts 3 distinct Caribbean atolls (Turneffe Reef, Lighthouse Reef and Glover’s Reef). This means that divers can enjoy a number of different coral reefs including walls, pinnacles and reef flats that are located throughout an enormous diving area. Lighthouse Reef is known for its deep walls, soft coral and sponge gardens, as well as some spectacular spur and groove formations. There is a great mix of large pelagics and small reef creatures. Shark-Ray Alley and Hol Chan Marine Reserve are very popular snorkeling sites. Shark-Ray Alley is a sure guarantee of schools of large stingray and nurse shark sightings. Hol Chan Marine Reserve is an excellent snorkeling destination comprised of a rich, well-preserved shallow coral reef and the narrow channel cutting through it. Gladden Spit is a world-renowned spot for diving with massive whale sharks, which are common here from late March through June, and to a lesser extent from August to October and in December and January.
