Although scuba diving is available year-round the best time to visit Gran Rogue is during the dry season which runs from November to April. The rainy season usually starts in September and lasts until January. The average air temperature stays between 24C/75F and 29C /84F. The water temperature varies between 25C/77F and 29C/84F, with January and February being the coolest months. The water visibility ranges from 10m/32ft to 30m/98ft on average. The currents are generally low. What to see Among marine species divers can spot barracudas, snappers, groupers, butterflies, trumpet, jacks, creole wrasse and many other fish.

Scuba diving in Gran Roque

Gran Roque is a small island, part of Los Roques archipelago (the oldest National Sea Park in the Caribbean). The closest international airport is in Caracas from where you got to take 40 minute flight to Gran Roque. The island offers great snorkeling and diving activities for divers of all experience levels. There is a variety of dive sites just offshore Gran Roque that feature coral reefs, rocky pinnacles, caves and walls. Scuba diving tours can be booked with one of the three dive shops on Gran Roque. The best dive-sites nearby include La Pierda de la Guasa, Boca de Cote, Boca del Medio, as well as Dos Mosquises, Cueva de los Sabalo, La Buceadora. La Pierda de la Guasa is a site known for its underwater rock pinnacle, rising from the sea bottom, and for predator species that favor this site, such as mackerel, tuna and huge barracuda.
