Scuba diving in Piran

Piran is situated at the tip of the Piran peninsula in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. The closest airport is Trieste – Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport that is located in 80 km. Divers here can explore some nice wrecks and reefs. There is a variety of marine life in these waters, including squids, octopuses, seahorses, lobsters, conger eels and others. Among the best sites are Wreck Maona Rossa, Wreck Kec, Fiesa reef and Punta reef. Punta reef’s geological structure gives safe haven to most of the species that live in this northern part of Adriatic sea. When diving off Punta reef, there is a possibility to do 2 different dives: the northern side (maximum depth 22m/ft) and southern side (maximum depth 12m/ft). Punta reef has its own micro climate offering calm waters during bad weather spells and southern winds, and choppy waters when Adriatic sea is calmer on the other side of the reef. Average visibility varies between 10-15m/32-49ft.
