When to go to Montego Bay

Montego Bay offers unforgettable diving year-round. It is better to come here during the summer, when the water visibility reaches up to 150ft/45m instead of 40ft/12m to 50ft/15m during the winter. The average air temperature ranges between 26C/78F and 29C/85F, while the water temperature is usually around 24C/75F- 26C/78F in this area. The rainy season comes for a short time in May/June and from October till December. From October till December it's also possible to see some hurricanes. What to see The fauna that can be easily spotted around Montego Bay includes grunts, snappers, eels, parrotfish, porcupinefish, starfish, lobsters, crabs, tobaccofish and many more. Larger species are barracudas, reef sharks, rays and morays.

Scuba diving in Montego Bay

Montego Bay is one of the main diving destinations of Jamaica. Ian Fleming International Airport is located in 115 km from it. Montego Bay is the first marine park of Jamaica, which preserves the unique species of black corals, basket sponges, various sea slugs and rare fish species. Due to the wide variety of sites around Montigo Bay area diving is possible for divers of all levels. Novice divers can enjoy shallow coral reefs full of beautiful flora and fauna, while experienced divers can go for more challenging dives. Shallow dives start with 15ft/4m, and the deepest ones exceed 100ft/30m. Most popular dive sites The most famous dive sites around the area include The Widow Maker with vertical and horizontal funnels and deep caves, and Basket Reef. Other interesting sites are Airport Reef with a sunk airplane, Spanish Anchor, Cayman Trench Wall with the wall of more than 1500ft/457m deep and Chubb Reef full of schools of Bermuda chubbs.
