Smokvica
The Smokvica site is a two-story undersea hill located 300m/984ft from the shore near the town of Primošten. It consists of two walls, one under another, and lies on the sandy seabed. The walls, the first of which is the 23m/75ft deep, are valued for the crevices, holes, and small caves they contain, which make the site a habitat for many species. The main attractions of this site are the fantastically shaped vibrant sponges and corals that cover the walls. They are mostly orange, lemon-yellow, red, and violet, and create the impression of an art piece. Some permanent settlers and frequent guests of this wonder are nudibranchs, forkbeards, lobsters, and two-banded sea bream.
When To Go Diving
June to August is the optimal time to explore this dive spot, when the water temperature usually doesn’t go lower than 22C/72F. The sea temperature is at its warmest (25C/77F) in July. September to December is the most humid season in this region.
