Chimneys
Namena Marine Reserve
The Chimneys at Namena Island has bommies covered with a wide variety of hard and soft corals and anemones. The Chimneys is 30m/98ft long and 10m/32ft wide. Here divers can see a great variety of reef inhabitants such as fish, nudibranchs, and corals.
When To Go Diving
It is possible to dive at the Chimneys year-round. The rainy season is from December to April. In March tropical cyclones often bring abundant rainfall. The average air temperature at the Chimneys is 27-30C/89-98F. The water temperature is around 25-26C/82-85F all year.
What to see
Many interesting reef inhabitants can be seen here, such as black saddle coral grouper, brown banded pipefish, hawkfish, and even silvertip sharks. In the trenches of the bommies, watch for resident barracudas and dogtooth tuna.
