Pakleni Islands
Pakleni Otoci is the chain of limestone islands around 10km/6.2mi long, located off the southwest coast of island of Hvar. There are 16 islands in total with the largest island of Sveti Klement. The islands have become popular destinations for divers of all levels of experience, and there are numerous interesting diving spots around them. Some of the most popular dive sites around Pakleni Otoci are Vodnjak (canyon, the depth from 15m/49ft to 40m/131ft), Vela Garska (70m/230ft long wall with the maximum depth of 30m/98ft), Poseidon Pillar (beautiful chimney dive), Acnhor Wall (an interesting drop off) and the wreck "Paulina", a wooden boat that sank about 150 years ago.
When To Go Diving
It is possible to dive at the islands any time of the year, however, wearing a wetsuit is required during the winter as the water temperature drops to 14C/57F. The average water temperature during the summer is 24-25C/75-77F.
What to see
Pakleni Otoci are home to an abundance of interesting marine creatures, including lobsters, occasional octopus, moray and conger eels, spotted dogfish, scorpion fish. While exploring an interesting underwater topography around the islands, divers will be enchanted by beautiful corals, gorgonians and sponges in all colors.
