The Big Cheese
The famous Big Cheese (or Swiss Cheese) dive site, located off the east coast of Mallorca, features a very interesting rock formation. With 90% of the rock submerged, the top of it rises out of the sea and forms some kind of a tiny islet, which is only 60m/197ft wide. The most interesting is that the submerged part of the rock is perforated with numerous holes and tunnels that remind holes in the cheese, hence the name of the site. The tunnels go in various directions and communicate with each other, so there will be a lot of fantastic opportunities for divers to explore this enormous “Gruyere” cheese.
What to see
Numerous tunnels and holes on the rock host a variety of marine species, so that divers will have good chances to see colorful nudibranchs, moray eels, scorpionfish, groupers, and barracudas.
