Located 5 minutes away by boat from the port of Corralejo, the dive site of El Bajón del Rio is a range of volcanic rocks shaped like big mushrooms up to 10m/33ft in height. The site is interesting because of its exceptional diversity of marine fauna that shelter between the mushroom-shaped rocks.
When To Go Diving
The most comfortable conditions for diving at this site are from June to October, when the average water temperature is 25C/77F. In winter, the water temperature averages 18C/64F. Because there are medium-strength currents, El Bajón del Rio is only recommended for advanced divers.
What to see
Beautiful fish such as parrotfish, ornate wrasses, and the ethereal-looking scribbled filefish can be spotted there. Other species found at this site include guelly jacks, cow bream, trumpetfish, barracudas, bluefin damselfish, saddled bream, Canarian lobsters, moray eels, amberjacks, groupers, eagle rays, triggerfish, glasseyes, scorpionfish, black bream, zebra bream, and stingrays.
