Mary’s Place is famous for its deep crevices which were formed by prehistoric volcanic activity and extend down to 28m/95ft depth. The dive features a steep wall that is dissected in one area and the sides of the wall create a coral and sponge-filled labyrinth at more than 30m/100ft depth. Some of the spots are pretty tight so divers will need good buoyancy control to avoid touching the walls.
When To Go Diving
Diving in Honduras can be done all year round. The average water temperature is 27C/81F from January to March, and 29C/84F from July to September.
What to see
Hard and soft corals, black coral trees, delicate seafans and sponges grow densely along the reef’s walls and crevices. Marine species include large groupers, nurse sharks, yellowtail snapper, schools of silversides, hawksbill turtles, schools of glassfish, chubs, creole wrasses, as well as lobsters and crabs who are seen hiding under the many ledges.
