Scuba diving in Batu Pendeta


Batu Pendeta is a drift dive site off the east coast of Sulawesi. The sea floor is covered with big boulders and one pinnacle that rises out of the water. The coral plateau has a drop-off with canyons, where divers can escape from the strong currents and observe the marine life that can be found there.
When to go
The best diving conditions at Batu Pendeta are from April to November, but the site is accessible throughout the year. The sea water temperature around Bangka Island averages 26-28C/79-82F. The average air temperature is 27-34C/81-93F.
What to see
The regular inhabitants of the coral reef at Batu Pendeta are dogtooth tuna, jacks, and different type of shark species. Other frequent visitors of this site are angelfish, triggerfish, butterflyfish, fusiliers, and unicornfish.
