During the World War II Truk Lagoon was the most fortified Japanese base. Numerous of army ships was anchored here: aircraft carriers, tankers, cargo ships, torpedo boats, submarines, and gunboats. In 1944 U.S. army attacked Truk base with a large armada of carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers and submarines. In 1945 Japanese army surrender. More than 70 shipwrecks and 400 aircraft destroyed or sunk. In nowadays Truk Lagoon is known for the great wreck diving. Lots of planes, vessels and submarines lie on the bottom covered in corals, Diver can see historical artifacts on their boards, like bottles and newspapers. There are coral pinnacles and deep channels with schooling fish as well
