About Si Kao

Si Kao is a region in southern Thailand. The Hat Chao Mai National Park is in this region, where tourists can see rare bird species, sea turtles, and dugongs living in the sea grass fields close to shore. The nearby islands of Koh Ha and Koh Rok (2 sister islands) are great places to dive. Koh Ha is formed by 5 islands and there is abundant marine life. Some of the best sites are the Chimney, Twin Cathedral, and Koh Ha Lagoon. The west side of Koh Rok is has a hard coral reef that slopes gently downwards, and on the eastern side of the islands (which has stronger currents), divers will find lots of soft corals with large gorgonian fans and sponges. Untouched local dive sites (Koh Mook, Koh Wean, and Koh Kradan) offer a vast diversity of marine macro life like tiger-tail seahorses, countless kinds of exotic nudibranches, and shrimp. Diving is available for all diver levels.

When to go to Si Kao

Scuba diving is possible all year round, but the best period is from November to April when the weather is at its best and the seas are usually calm. Late May to October brings the monsoon winds and the worst visibility. The ocean temperature varies from a high of 30C/86F in the dry season to a low of around 27C/80F during the rainy season. Visibility ranges from 5-30m/16-98ft. The air temperature does not vary much all year, with a comfortable 31-34C/87-98F daytime temperature and 20-25C/68-77F at night. What to see Among marine species, divers can find ghost pipefish, octopi, schools of silverside fish, barracudas, trevallies, plenty of moray eels, leopard sharks, blacktip reef sharks, blue-spotted stingrays, hawksbill turtles, manta rays, and even occasional whale sharks. There is a large variety of unique dive sites with impressive scenery, including coral-covered boulders, walls, stunning caverns, a series of caves (on Koh Ha Yai), and spectacular swim-throughs, as well as amazing hard coral gardens.
