About Ranong Province

Ranong Province, Thailand, is located on the Andaman coast, 568km/353mi from Bangkok. The province is one of the less-populated provinces in Thailand, and is well-known for its unspoiled natural beauty. Ranong is covered with mountains and tropical mangrove forests. Nowadays the region serves also as an entrance to Myanmar. The narrow channel separates two countries and is always full of bright, crowded boats. The province is famous for its capital city with the same name, which is a major fishing and trading port. The hot springs and pristine nature make the region popular with tourists, who relax in local hotels. There is a wide range of lodging for all types of travelers, from inexpensive rooms in the remote area of Ranong for travelers on a budget to luxurious first-class hotels close to the ocean for tourists traveling in style. When to go to Ranong Province

Ranong is known for its long rainy season that lasts for 8 months every year, starting in May. The province has a tropical monsoon climate.

The average temperature throughout the year is 26C/80F. The dive season runs from the end of October until May.

Visibility is good, around 15-30m/49-98ft.

The currents are usually mild.

 

What to see

Scuba diving in Ranong Province is unbelievable and there are plenty of different marine species. Divers can see manta rays, eagle rays, lobsters, anemones, crabs, feather stars, angelfish, moray eels, snapper, and frogfish hiding between orange sea fans, black corals, and sponges. Nurse sharks, potato cod, and leopard sharks can be found in deeper areas.
