When to go to Pedasi District
The best time for diving is from April to December. The summer season in Pedasí is from June through November and the winter season is from December through May. The rainy season is from May through November. The average air temperature varies from 25-27C/77-81F all year round. The water is clean and clear with an average temperature of 26C/79F.
What to see
The waters surrounding Pedasí are home to nearly 7,000 marine species, some 3.5% of the total aquatic life on Earth. Marine life in Pedasí is abundant and includes some year-round fish, such as puffers, barracudas, parrotfish, snappers, butterflyfish, snappers, amberjacks, grouper, sailfish, and roosterfish, as well as some seasonal catch, such as yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna and wahoo. Sea turtles, starfish and sea cucumbers also can be found in the area. Pelagic game fish are common in the region because the continental shelf drops off near the shore. From June to October humpback whales can be seen there.
Scuba diving in Pedasi District
Pedasí is one of five districts in Los Santos Province, Panama and is located along the southeastern part of the Azuero Peninsula. Ruben Cantu Airport is located in 145 km from it.
It is known for being a fishing region. There are several restaurants, shops, and supermarkets, two banks, and one library and health clinic. Despite its small population of only about 2,000 people, the town is full of activities and festivities that attract visitors every year. In February, an annual carnival is held. Also the area is known for its pristine beaches and water-related activities, such as diving. The town has a good beach, Playa del Toro. Pedasí is also located near many of national preserves and parks of Panama. It has beautiful architecture and clean streets. It is known for being one of the main attractions in the Los Santos area. Many divers are flocking to Pedasí to take advantage of the coral reefs and incredible marine life off Isla Iguana, an amazing, beautiful and pristine island just off the shore. A short drive west from Pedasí is Playa Venao, a place where scuba divers can choose from multiple dive sites, including the nearby Frailes Islands. Isla Cañas, just beyond Playa Venao, is a major nesting site for several marine turtles.
