About New Providence

New Providence is situated between Andros and Eleuthera islands and is truly one of the most popular destinations for diving because of the abundance of marine life and spectacular underwater landscape. A vast number of local dive sites, such as Goulding Cay, The Lost Blue Hole and Cessna Wreck offer a variety of picturesque coral reefs and colorful sponges. Razorback Wall features tunnels and Runway and Shark Arena dive sites offer divers to swim among numerous species of sharks including Carribean reef shark, blacktip, hammerhead, silky and bull shark. Diving in New Providence is suitable both for novice and experienced divers, depending on the dive site. Ten dive sites that are worth a visit are The Willaurie Wreck, Shark Buoy, The James Bond Wrecks, Shark Arena, Periwinkle Reef, Hollywood Bowl, The Lost Blue Hole, Ray of Hope Wreck, and the Bahama Mama Shipwreck in the Shark Runway.

When to go to New Providence

Diving in New Providence is good any time of the year. The low season here is during the winter months, when the temperature on the surface is around 23-27C/73-80F, and the water temperature falls to 22-25C/72-77F. Spring and autumn months are the most favorable for diving, it is 25-30C/77-86F from May to November. The warmest months are from June through August when the temperature can reach 32C/90F on the surface, and 30-32C/86-90F is the water. The water visibility ranges from 20 to 30m/65-98ft. All year round a variety of shark species, stingrays, blue parrots, groupers,eagle rays and barracudas are permanent inhabitants of this region.
