About Mindoro

Mindoro is divided into Occidental Mindoro (west) and Oriental Mindoro (east) and is one of the least developed main islands in the Philippines. Oriental Mindoro offers good diving in Puerto Galera, known as the Pearl of Mindoro. It is known to divers from all over the world for splendid beaches, coral reefs, and exquisite dive sites available to new and experienced divers alike. Occidental Mindoro is another diving paradise with a variety of activities to choose from such as giving divers a chance to discover several unexplored shoals and atolls. The areas around Ambulong Island, Ilin Island, White Island, and Pandan Grande offer a rich diving ground surrounded by exquisite coral reefs and colorful marine life, ranging from exotic fish to exquisite seashells. A great variety of dive sites off Mindoro offers divers to explore coral reefs, walls, drop offs, caves, canyons and ship wrecks.

Some of the best sites in the area include Alma Jane Wreck, Sabang WrecksCanyonsShark Cave, and Hole in the WallIt has one of the country's wondrous secret hideaways, the Apo Reef, which is regarded as the second largest in the world. This 34km/21mi reef in Sablayan is acclaimed as the best in Asia and is the diving mecca of the Philippines. There are some scuba locations nearby, some suiting novice divers and trainees while others should only be visited by professional divers with their own equipment. 

When to go to Mindoro

Diving in Mindoro is possible all year long. Best time to dive is from April to September. The average annual temperature stays between 28-32C/82-89F. The coldest time is from November to February while the warmest from March to June.

The average water temperature ranges around 22-29C-71-84F with water visibility of 10-30m/30-98ft.

 

What to see

A wide variety of large fish such as white tip sharks, barracudas, tunas and even eagle rays, turtles, batfish, angelfish, surgeonfish, wrasses and butterfly fish can be found here.
