About Maputo Province

Maputo Province is the southernmost province of Mozambique. It borders Gaza Province to the north, the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal to the south, Swaziland to the southeast, the Indian Ocean to the east and the Mpumalanga province of South Africa to the west and northwest. The most popular diving spots here are Ponta do Ouro, Ponta Malongane and Ponta Mamoli. This area provides divers with world class diving experience, presenting thick coral growth and fish life varying from the smallest to the biggest. Huge variety of marine life includes Whales, Dolphins, Sharks, Turtles, Rays, Lion fish, Moral eels, Octopus, Game Fish, Bait fish, Goat fish, Paper fish, Rock Cod, Puffer fish, Trigger fish and much more. All along the coast from Ponta do Ouro to Ponta Mamoli there are more than 30 dive sites suitable for all certification levels. The rich underwater topography features some beautiful coral reefs, gullies and caves that vary in depth from 10m/29ft to 46m/150ft. Popular dive sites such as Waynes World, Bass City, Pinnacles, Doodles, Three Sisters, Rhianna’ arch, Paradise and Atlantis are home to a rich variety of marine life. Waynes World is better suited for advanced scuba divers. The average depth of the site is 20m/65ft with a maximum of 24m/78ft. Here divers may explore some interesting ledges, sand gullies, plate coral, fire coral, and a variety of fish life, especially rays and scorpion fish as well as green paper fish. Visibility can reach 35m/114ft.

When to go to Maputo Province

Maputo features a tropical savanna climate. It is a relatively dry city, with a short rainy season lasting from November through March. Diving is possible all year long with the average water temperature ranging between 22- 27C/71-80F.
