About Luzon
Luzon, or Nueva Castilla or the New Castile as the Spanish named it, is the largest most densely populated regions in the north of the Philippines. Instead of diving Luzon offers to discover it’s amazing nature, World War II history, architecture from the Spanish colonial era and Philippinean customs which are well interwoven in today's daily life. La Union, Subic Bay and Anilao are some of the better dive destinations of the Luzon’s region. La Union offers secluded beaches and quiet fishing villages. Subic Bay has been one of the biggest bases of the United States resulting in many WWII wrecks. A small town in the southeast is Donsol which has become famous as it is one of the best spots worldwide where you can dive, swim and snorkel with whale sharks. Diving in Luzon’s region is available for divers of all experience levels. Divers can explore here beautiful underwater landscapes and an abundant marine life.
When to go to Luzon
Diving in Luzon is available all year-round best time is from November to May. Average air temperature is around 24-33C/75-91F. Water temperature averages 26-30C/78-86F. The water visibility is about 20-50m/65-164ft, March through May have the best visibility.
What to see
Among marine species divers can see reef fish, schooling fish, lion fish, jacks, barracuda, moorish idol, flute mouth, tuna, batfish and trevally, turtles and sharks as well as many colorful corals.
