About Krabi Province

Krabi is one of the southern provinces of Thailand located on the shore of the Andaman Sea. It is situated approximately 600mi south of Bangkok. Neighboring provinces include Phang Nga, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Trang. The capital of the region is the city of Krabi. Of the 154 islands in the province, Ko Phi Phi Leh is the most famous. Other notable islands include Ko Phi Phi Don, part of the Phi Phi Islands and Ko Lanta, a larger island to the south. Krabi province has white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, fascinating coral reefs and waterfalls. Krabi is a great place for scuba diving. The main beaches are Ao Nang and Railae and the local reefs are located just a few kilometers south of them and are focused around a group of small islands including Koh Daeng, Koh Podah Nai, Koh Podah Nok, Koh Haa, Koh See and Koh Ya Wa Bon. These local sites are a mixture of rocky boulder formations, shallow reefs and beautiful coral gardens, offering a good variety of diving for divers of all levels of experience.

 

Most popular dive sites

The main dive sites in Krabi are Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, where large pelagic such as tuna and barracuda as well as whale sharks and manta rays can be seen. Other interesting dive sites are King Cruiser WreckAnemone Reef, Koh Haa, Shark Point, as well as Koh Bida Islands and other dive sites around Phi Phi Islands.

When to go to Krabi Province

The best time to visit the province of Krabi is between the months of November and April. he average air temperature varies from 24C/75F to 32C/89F. The hottest time is from April through May, with temperatures ranging from 27C/80F to 36C/95F. The water temperature stays at a warm 29C/84F all year round. The average visibility is around 15-20m/16-66ft.

 

What to see

There is an abundant marine life, over 200 species of fish and 80 species of corals, including Hawksbill turtles, leopard sharks, crabs, wrasse, snappers, fusiliers, groupers, sea horses, moray eels, glass fish, cowries, scorpion fish and various sharks. Divers can explore caverns, caves, overhangs, cliffs and pinnacles.
