Haifa has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with cool, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. Diving is better from May to October with average temperature 27C/80F.

Scuba diving in Haifa

Haifa is the third largest city in Israel and the major city located in the north of the Israel. Haifa Airport is located there. Northern coast is rocky with a coarse sand bottom, that settles quickly after disturbance. The marine life is diverse: sponges and soft corals, octopuses, sponges, sea urchins, crab, sea turtle, rays and lots of small fish. Among sites for advanced level of divers - Achziv Canyon, Scirè (a WWII Italian submarine, maximum depth 35m/114ft), for novice level-Ceasaria Maritima Old City, Rosh Hanikra Caverns. Ceasaria Maritima Old City is a unique underwater archaeological park, that features the underwater ruins of this ancient city. There is a variety of guided underwater routes, where divers may experience a collection of anchors of varying age, dive around various rock formations, shipwrecks and caverns, swim past the remains of a 2000-year-old breakwater, where “negatives” of the wooden forms ancient engineers used to build the breakwater’s foundations can be seen (maximum depth 10m/32ft). Visibility on average is 10-15m/32-49ft, but better especially from autumn through spring.
